Butterflies

Tiny bit of progress today...

#42 - Butterfly
Added the caterpiller... got to figure out what I'm going to put on the top... want the larvaa, but it looks like a garbage can.   Will figure out something.

Butterfly

Saw an image of a butterfly on a sweater the other day that made me want to paint a butterfly.  Interesting subject matter in a lot of ways, all the symbolism associated with it... because of its reality.

This is a work in progress on a pretty large canvas.  There is a lot more left to do.  The butterfly so far is just the mostly solid colors, have a lot of detail to do there.

Pretty different from anything that I've done so far this year, but similar to older pen drawings from when I was younger.

Ice or Into the Light

Finished up #41 today.  I spent some time yesterday doing details around outside of the hole, and then didn't like it.  So I painted over it, smoothing it out completely.  Happy with it now.   Can see many things in this one.

Ice

I've had a cold the last few days.  Was really bad on Wednesday, was feverish and stayed in bed most of the day.  Thursday, I laid on the couch, hacking into the waste basket, most of the day playing the old Xbox game "Blue Dragon".   When I finally went to go lay down in bed, I had a vision of a bright blue ice scene... open in the middle with icicles all around the edges.   When I woke back up, on facebook Nick had posted a link to Deadmau5 - Ghosts N Stuff (Nero Mix).  I was listening to it the whole time (repeat) while laying down the  main details of current work in progress.

#41

Have a lot more detail to do, but it was coming along nicely.  When I'm feeling better, and the sun is out, I'll take pictures of this and Fire out in the sun.

Kick Ass

When Dan was visiting us, one afternoon (2010/08/29) we watched the movie "Kick Ass".  The villian's, Frank D'Amico,  office has a lot of orange in it which inspired me to paint a couple of paintings... one was a small practice painting.

The other was a larger canvas.

#40 - Fire

Thought about combining the two in different ways to come up with another painting...

But now am thinking about making it into a Fire painting to go along with an Ice painting that I started on yesterday.

Lost

The other day, 2010/09/02, bing.com had for the image of the day a very nice photo called "Pulpit Rock on the Isle of Portland, Dorset, England --- Gavin Hellier/Photographer's Choice".  Every time I saw the picture, I got strong feelings about it, that I wanted to paint.  The following is what I ended up painting:

#37 - Lost
I named it "Lost" for more reasons then the obvious...

For Oliver

A blowfish for Oliver...

#36 - Blowfish
Using the kid's animal template.

Starting

Decided to try doing a glob or blog, write down some things about my paintings or music while I'm doing it, or just thinking about it.

Yesterday we went to the Scottish Festival in Pleasanton.  Watching the baggers, made me want to paint some festival paintings like Kathy's grandma Bev has done. Bought a couple of CD's by Tempest who was playing as we were walking out.  Then later in the day we went down to Santanna Row to watch a friend's band perform.  Took some photos there too, of the "scene".

Never really been into people-oriented paintings.  Nothing I've ever painted, other then portraits, has ever included people.  At some point I'll have to try it.
